Pixacom: How long have you been doing photography?
Larry Niven: I have been shooting models since 1982
Pixacom: Did you take any photography classes?
Larry Niven: I have taken several courses and seminars. That is the best way to learn the craft.
Pixacom: How did you get started photographing beautiful women?
Larry Niven: There were two popular models in Vancouver in the late 70s/early 80s named Dorthy Stratten and Carla Temple. I thought it would be fun to shoot models like them. It was through taking courses at Langara, that I was introduced to models.
Pixacom: How did you feel with your first model shoot?
Larry Niven: The model was a real pro. She certainly knew how to pose and I was able to get some good shots from that shoot.
Pixacom: Would you say you are pretty comfortable now?
Larry Niven: I am very compfortable
Pixacom: Where would you say you get your inspiration from?
Larry Niven: As I mentioned above, it was two models named Carla Temple and Dorthy Stratten that inspired me to start shooting.
Pixacom: What would the average model say about your style of photography?
Larry Niven:I am always experimenting with light and colour, so I don't really have a style. However the average model would say that they like the bright colours in my photos.

Pixacom: What type of camera equipment are you shooting with today?
Larry Niven: Nikon, Mamiya and a Kiev 88
Pixacom: Is there any equipment you'd love to have?
Larry Niven: Carl Zeis lenses for my Nikon cameras and a medium format digital camera would be nice
Pixacom: What are your opinions on digital vs. film?
Larry Niven: Each has it's advantages and disadvantages
Pixacom: Are there any websites you would suggest for photographers looking to break into the business?
Larry Niven: http://www.garageglamour.com
Pixacom: What's the worst experience you've had working in model photography?
Larry Niven: I've had a few no shows
Pixacom: What's the best part about working in model photography?
Larry Niven: The best part is having fun during the shoot.
Pixacom: What's next for your portfolio?
Larry Niven: More magazine tear sheets
Pixacom: Have you been requested to travel for your photography?
Larry Niven: Yes I have
Pixacom: If you had the opportunity to shoot a celebrity actress who would that be and why?
Larry Niven: Pam Anderson. We started out in Vancouver at the same time. Yet we did not cross paths.
Pixacom: What female music artist would you like to work with?
Larry Niven: If Janis Joplin were still alive, I would have loved to work with her.
Pixacom: Have you had any of your photography work published commercially?
Larry Niven: Yes, I've had work published in Musclemag, American Curves, Status Fitness, DXL and Planet Muscle

Pixacom: Where do you see your photography taking you 5 years from now?
Larry Niven: I hope to be shooting celebrities 5 years from now.
Pixacom: Anything you'd like to say to all the models reading this right now?
Larry Niven:Models, look through your favorite magazines and pick out photos that you like. Find out who the photographers were and give them a call. That is the best way to get into magazines.
